I was totally shocked when I saw this!<\/p>\n

It's not so much innovative as it is... actually, this isNormal use?<\/strong><\/span>Isn't that the case?!<\/p>\n

I'm a little concerned that the opening in the middle is a bit too big, but this might actually be the most practical grating!<\/p>\n

But that's beside the point.<\/p>\n

The other day, something happened that really got me thinking.<\/p>\n

Well, let's just call it jealousy from others, I guess?<\/p>\n

Looks like there are some people who are a pain to deal with. lol<\/p>\n

I wanted to write this down so I wouldn't forget, so I went ahead and wrote it down lol<\/p>\n

Unwritten Rules for Subcontracting in the Construction Industry<\/h3>\n

As those of you who have been in this industry for a long time probably know,<\/p>\n

You must not approach the parent company that was hired as a subcontractor by the prime contractor.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

To put it simply,<\/p>\n

It is as shown in the figure above.<\/p>\n

For example, let's say I'm Company C.<\/p>\n

Suppose we are carrying out construction work at Company A\u2019s site as a subcontractor for Company B.<\/p>\n

So, while I\u2019ll have some contact with Company A, I\u2014as an employee of Company C\u2014am not allowed to approach Company A directly with sales pitches.<\/p>\n

There would be no problem if we hadn't originally carried out the construction work for Company A.<\/p>\n

If we are to approach Company A for business, we must obtain Company B's approval.<\/p>\n

This is the unwritten rule.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

To be honest, in this day and age, it's ridiculous.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

And lately, there are some construction companies that are aggressively pushing their sales pitch regardless of whether there\u2019s a connection or not.<\/p>\n

This is commonly referred to as \u201cdiving under\u201d or \u201cflying over\u201d or \u201cskipping over.\u201d (For example, \u201cdiving under\u201d or \u201cskipping over a parent company.\u201d)<\/p>\n

I tend to be somewhat critical of this unspoken rule.<\/p>\n

But if you ask me, \u201cSo, are you going to do it?\u201d\u2014I won\u2019t.<\/p>\n

BecauseIt's because I feel like something's off.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

I think the results the top companies are seeing now are the fruit of their past sales efforts.<\/p>\n

When I think about how much hard work must have gone into it, I just can't bring myself to casually snatch the job away from them.<\/p>\n

However, on the other hand, there is also the view that workers are free to work wherever they choose.<\/p>\n

I think it's best to work where you want to work. That's why I'm critical of unwritten rules.<\/p>\n

Since one company will clearly be eliminated, profits will increase, and the terms are likely to improve.<\/p>\n

Back when I worked at what was commonly referred to as a \u201cfairly large\u201d company, we would reach out directly to reliable subcontractors\u2014even those at the bottom of the chain\u2014to ask them to take on projects.<\/p>\n

But even so, we\u2019d still get complaints from that vendor\u2019s higher-ups. (My boss used to get mad at me all the time, lol.)<\/p>\n

There are no specific penalties or consequences for failing to follow the unwritten rules.<\/p>\n

If you don't mind, then that's fine.<\/p>\n

As the saying goes, \u201cRumors last 75 days\u201d\u2014so, at the end of the day, that\u2019s all there is to it.<\/p>\n

However, Japanese people either follow this custom or, perhaps, hold it in high regard...<\/p>\n

Even though we're in an era where job requests come in over the Internet, I do feel like unspoken rules are making it harder to work.<\/p>\n

Are we still in that kind of era? The number of construction contractors just keeps dropping.<\/p>\n
