I guess it's about time I changed the color of my Gun Machine, too... lol<\/p>\n
But that's beside the point.<\/p>\n
The other day, I heard that our Vietnamese technical intern was getting bad reviews from the general contractor, so I decided to talk to him about it.<\/p>\n
There were complaints about the general contractor\u2014that they did this, that they did that, that they had this kind of attitude... and so on.<\/p>\n
And I've heard that lately, even among Vietnamese people, there are rumors that he stands out...<\/p>\n

And after discussing various things, we came to the conclusion that the problem might be a lack of communication on our part.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Basically, I realized that I tend to take what people say at face value, while completely ignoring what those who don't speak up have to say.<\/p>\n
It seems they did try to make their presence known to some extent, but opinions from those who speak up the loudest tend to carry more weight.<\/p>\n
People who are close to those in charge tend to speak especially loudly, so when others speak, their voices are too soft and get drowned out.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
I realized that, in a sense, I hadn\u2019t been listening to anything but opinions that suited my own interests.<\/p>\n
Should we adults\u2014as supervisors and employers\u2014actively seek out the opinions of those who are not in our immediate circle (such as subordinates and junior colleagues)?<\/p>\n
It was a day that made me think about how we can communicate our opinions more smoothly with one another and continue to improve.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
We Japanese rely on the help of young people from around the world through the Technical Intern Training Program.<\/p>\n
I realized that it\u2019s our job as Japanese people to create an environment where they can work comfortably, and that providing emotional support is also our responsibility.<\/p>\n
It\u2019s not enough to simply do the work (give instructions, provide guidance); you must also establish both the physical and organizational environments and engage with the young people to help them find common ground (by listening to them).<\/p>\n
It was a new revelation for me\u2014so this is what it means to hire technical interns!?<\/p>\n
It can be tricky because language differences can make it hard to understand each other or lead to misunderstandings, but it\u2019s enough if we can meet in person and talk so that they understand we mean no harm. (We\u2019re on the same side, after all.)<\/p>\n
Even if we speak the same language... (Though there are some Japanese people who speak Japanese really well... lol)<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
That said, the same is certainly true for Japanese people as well, isn't it?<\/p>\n
At the end of the day, people just go to the dogs when they're left to their own devices. (Though some are already rotten to the core from the start, lol.)<\/p>\n
I guess if you keep paying attention to it, its growth will go up and down dramatically, right? (Fruit!? lol)<\/p>\n
I feel like I've only just realized what it means to nurture people.<\/p>\n

At the end of the day, it comes down to my lack of communication.<\/p>\n
Communicate more with employees!<\/p>\n
