Lately, I\u2019ve been thinking a lot about how to deal with young people.<\/p>\n
The construction industry used to be considered a \"black\" industry. (Is it \"gray\" now?)<\/p>\n
It's what's known as the \"3K.\"<\/p>\n
Tough, Dirty, Dangerous<\/p>\n
The person who coined this phrase must have been doing \u201ceasy, clean, and safe work\u201d at the time.<\/p>\n
If you think about it the other way around, you might wonder, \u201cDoes a job like that even exist?\u201d But this image is so strong that, in a sense, the construction industry is becoming a booming sector.<\/p>\n
While the industry is still \u201ctough, dirty, and dangerous\u201d\u2014just as it always has been\u2014it\u2019s starting to be seen as offering higher salaries and a cleaner image than any other industry.<\/p>\n
Because of that, I often hear stories suggesting that young people are, if only slightly, interested in this side of things.<\/p>\n
In a way, that's a good thing, isn't it?<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Conversely, if someone\u2019s salary is low despite being in that situation, there must be some reason for it.<\/p>\n
It\u2019s possible that your pay is low because you work slowly, make a lot of mistakes, take a lot of time off, or lack the necessary qualifications\u2014but this is an industry where you can easily resolve any of these issues through your own efforts.<\/p>\n
If you meet those requirements but are underpaid, please look for a new job.<\/p>\n
There are plenty of companies that will appreciate you.<\/p>\n
(But be careful\u2014there are anti-social groups out there.)<\/p>\n

People often say, \u201cKids these days...,\u201d but is it really the kids\u2019 fault? Or could it be...We, who can't understand young people, are also partly to blame.<\/strong><\/span>Isn't that the case?<\/p>\n That's what I think.<\/p>\n As the times and years constantly pass, middle-aged men and women\u2014who tend to get stuck in the past\u2014end up saying things like, \u201cThings were better back then.\u201d<\/p>\n Back when I was young...<\/p>\n The young people listening to this are fed up.<\/p>\n We were sick of it back when we were young, too, weren't we? Yeah.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n So, what should we keep in mind when talking with them?<\/p>\n In my opinion, I think it\u2019s about discussing the current reality and the rules, and saying things like, \u201cSo this isn\u2019t allowed, right?\u201d or \u201cSo this isn\u2019t a problem, right?\u201d<\/p>\n I teach them\u2014I tell them\u2014that \u201caccording to current social norms, that\u2019s not okay, right?\u201d<\/p>\n \"The design value is +100, and the actual measurement is +102, so this won't work. That's because it's specified in the design. Design standards are absolute!\"<\/p>\n It's very easy to understand, isn't it?<\/p>\n <\/p>\n It\u2019s because we middle-aged guys and gals tend to bring in other ideas, past experiences, and emotions when we talk that things get complicated.<\/p>\n Please share those kinds of thoughts and feelings with people who share the same values or are in a similar age group who understand them, lol.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Lately, salaries have been going up across the industry, so even at 3K, young women and slightly rebellious young people are joining the ranks. (Having heard the rumors)<\/p>\n Especially since those kinds of kids live their lives in a way that suits them best, they pretty much ignore what we say, so I have to think carefully about how to deal with them.<\/p>\n Even though they use LINE all the time, they\u2019ll just say, \u201cI didn\u2019t see it,\u201d when it comes to work-related messages. (There are ways to avoid marking messages as read, lol.)<\/p>\n Even though we've agreed that people should call to let us know about time off by the day before, they still send messages on LINE the morning of.<\/p>\n Even in those situations, I calmly explain the company rules; I might send them via LINE, or depending on the circumstances, I\u2019ll provide them in writing and have the person sign them.<\/p>\n Even if you go that far, it's just the same thing all over again.<\/p>\n Isn't what we can do simply to keep doing what's mentioned above while waiting for that young person to grow up?<\/p>\n That's what I've been thinking. (Especially lately.)<\/p>\n Of course, we get frustrated and angry, too.<\/p>\n But I\u2019ve been thinking that maybe one of our jobs as middle-aged guys is to wait until they\u2019re able to grow on their own.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Let's try to clearly and vividly recall who we used to be.<\/p>\n At what age did you start thinking you needed to get your career and life in order?<\/p>\n Did you think you didn't want to be a burden?<\/p>\n Were you able to do your job perfectly??<\/p>\n Wasn't there a boss, foreman, or CEO who believed in your potential and supported your growth?<\/p>\n <\/p>\n I realize that \u201cwaiting\u201d has become part of our jobs as middle-aged guys, lol.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n See you later.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Hello, everyone.
