I finally made it back to Nagoya the other day and am feeling relieved, but I\u2019m planning to be running all over the place again this week, lol.<\/p>\n
It's great, but sitting too much makes my butt hurt, lol.<\/p>\n

While we were traveling, we were using social media to discuss how we could improve the image of the construction industry.<\/p>\n
I also thought about how we could appeal to young Japanese people to encourage more of them to join the construction industry.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
I shared my view that I\u2019d like young people to gain more experience in the construction industry, and the event organizers agreed with me.<\/p>\n
Ultimately, even with all the PR, I think the construction industry is just a facade\u2014it\u2019s an industry shrouded in mystery.<\/p>\n
Don't you ever wonder if the construction industry can really attract people just by promoting itself as \"the people who build bridges\" or \"the people who build dams\"? lol<\/p>\n
What's more, since most of the job postings are for major PR firms, they're all written from a manager's perspective.<\/p>\n
In the construction industry, it\u2019s not just the supervisory work that should be highlighted\u2014the actual construction work itself should be promoted as well.<\/p>\n
However, the companies actually doing the construction don\u2019t engage in that kind of PR at all. They wouldn\u2019t waste money on PR like that.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
At cake shops, they offer job shadowing opportunities, right?<\/p>\n
Firefighters have those job-shadowing opportunities, too, right?<\/p>\n
Is there such a thing as the construction industry? lol<\/p>\n
Even if there were any, would you use a level (a device like an auto-level to check for levelness) or a transit?<\/p>\n
So you definitely don't know anything about the construction industry, do you?<\/p>\n

The hands-on work we'll be doing includes installing gutters, assembling formwork, and trying our hand at shotcrete.<\/p>\n
No way, that's dangerous, isn't it!?<\/p>\n
I suppose people might say that, but aren\u2019t we the ones who place the highest priority on safety out of all industries?<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Accidents happen as a result of unsafe behavior. I think our industry is one where safety is taken extremely seriously.<\/p>\n
If you do that, I think you\u2019ll be able to get quite a bit of safe work experience.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
The same goes for internships.<\/p>\n
After all, what can you really understand just by skimming over what the director is doing??<\/p>\n
Don't you ever feel that way?<\/p>\n
Just because you get a certificate at the end of an internship, does that really make you think, \u201cI want to do this job!!\u201d?<\/p>\n

If you work for a major company, I think people say it\u2019s the kind of job that gets marked on a map. These days, if you search on Google, it even shows the area around the worksite, doesn\u2019t it?<\/p>\n
However, what really matters is that this is the kind of work where making each and every part by hand leaves a deep impression on my memory.<\/p>\n
I think the appeal of the construction industry is that the experiences etched in your memory are still very much a part of it today~<\/p>\n
I think there are few industries other than construction where experience is made tangible and preserved over the long term.<\/p>\n

As a subcontractor, I can\u2019t help but think it would be great if the national and local governments, as well as the general contractors, would highlight that aspect a bit more, lol.<\/p>\n
Well, I do think it\u2019s important for us subcontractors to put some thought into how we present ourselves.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Anyway, I'd really like to let them experience our work.<\/p>\n
I\u2019d like to try doing some actual construction work on-site. It seems like the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism is on board with that and is basically saying, \u201cWe\u2019ll give you points for it.\u201d<\/p>\n
Even if that means losing two or three days of construction time, since it\u2019s an investment in the future, we need to carry out both our current and future work simultaneously, don\u2019t we?<\/p>\n
Let's do our best for the future of the civil engineering and construction industries!<\/p>\n
