The other day, I took a peek at the drainpipe next to the place where I went for a meeting lol<\/p>\n
It\u2019s not like you ever see it after installation, is it? lol<\/p>\n
I took a peek at that place and thought, \u201cWhoa!\u201d so I figured I\u2019d write about it.<\/p>\n

The rocks are surprisingly beautiful, aren't they?<\/p>\n
There weren't any large cracks either.<\/p>\n
It seemed as though that was helping to prevent weathering, at least to some extent.<\/p>\n

I checked dozens of the drainage pipes below, and they really seemed to be doing an excellent job of slowing down weathering.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
The boundary line happened to be right where the prefectural land and private land met.<\/p>\n
The area next to it was quite weathered.<\/p>\n

Completely worn out.<\/p>\n
It's the kind of thing that falls off easily if you give it a little nudge.<\/p>\n

The purpose of sprayed mortar and concrete work itself is not to increase the strength of the subgrade\u2014such as to prevent collapse\u2014but is strictly a surface treatment to prevent weathering and inhibit weed growth.<\/p>\n
Comparing them makes it easier to understand and is very educational.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
You can see this clearly if you look inside the drain pipe.<\/p>\n
Where plants are growing out of the drainage pipe, the interior has indeed weathered and turned into sediment. (Weathering occurs in some areas along the water channels inside the mortar.)<\/p>\n
On the flip side, in a way, if it turns into a pile of dirt, plants will grow there, so it\u2019s easy to tell how healthy it is, lol. (Is a mortar surface overrun with plants a bad sign?)<\/p>\n

You might make some new discoveries by looking at places you don't usually look at.<\/p>\n
Peeking is a no-no, but please do take a peek inside the drain pipe lol<\/p>\n
