The supervisor for the general contractor is in his 20s.<\/p>\n
The foreman at the subcontracting firm is in his 40s.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
The difference is that the supervisor is young and inexperienced, while the subcontractor foreman is a veteran.<\/p>\n
Even so, our working relationship is on an equal footing. Contractually speaking, too, lol.<\/p>\n
However, young people sometimes talk back, so veterans often get annoyed.<\/p>\n
However, veterans don't say anything about minor issues.<\/p>\n
It's because we're a subcontractor.<\/p>\n

For veteran subcontractors to be willing to teach these young workers the ropes, the young workers must show respect for the veterans.<\/p>\n
This \"showing respect\" simply means that junior employees use honorific language when addressing veteran subcontractors and refer to them as \"Mr.\/Ms. [Name].\"<\/p>\n
And it\u2019s important to clearly say \u201cI don\u2019t understand\u201d when there\u2019s something you don\u2019t understand.<\/p>\n

That's all it takes.<\/p>\n
People say that young people these days don't know how to use honorifics, but wasn't it the same when I was young? (Things haven't changed at all.)<\/p>\n
I, too, would casually talk down to the veteran foreman, bossing him around with \"Do this\" and \"Do that,\" all while taking a nap during my lunch break within the legal limits lol<\/p>\n
Well, that\u2019s bound to strain relationships, and the veterans will get angry, too.<\/p>\n
After that, we miraculously became friends, and we still keep in touch, but people still bring up what happened back then. (They say I was a sassy little brat, lol.)<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Once you get to know each other, it\u2019s no problem to exchange light-hearted banter\u2014you\u2019re still communicating effectively\u2014but it takes at least one job site to build that kind of rapport.<\/p>\n
If we work together on a project for about three months, we'll generally get along well.<\/p>\n
We have a general idea of each other's personalities and character traits.<\/p>\n
If the veteran foreman isn't cutting corners at this stage, the next job site should be just as enjoyable.<\/p>\n
Just because you're young, or just because you don't understand, if you keep doing your work half-heartedly and carelessly, what do you think will happen next? (It's easy to imagine.)<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Things go more smoothly on site when people work from the same perspective and in the same role.<\/p>\n
It's not a matter of one being better than the other.<\/p>\n
Even though there is a hierarchical structure within the company, it\u2019s the people on the front lines who actually do the work, so mutual respect is essential for running the front lines smoothly.<\/p>\n
Let\u2019s all do our best\u2014both the young and the experienced\u2014while showing mutual respect!<\/p>\n
