Just when I was thinking, \"Has the rain let up a little?\"\u2014it started raining again...<\/p>\n
The situation on site is really bad...<\/p>\n
It's fine for drilling holes for anchors and such, but it's all about the spray coating!<\/p>\n
At the job site we started working on the other day, the earthwork was delayed time and again, so we had to jump right in.<\/p>\n
That's shotcrete.<\/p>\n
I think I can manage for the next week or so by putting up tarps, but if it rains after that, I'm completely...<\/p>\n

Even though I keep saying, \"Man, this is rough,\" the next job always comes along...<\/p>\n
The schedule is pretty much set, so I plan my work around it.<\/p>\n

Well, I guess things will just have to work out as they do, so I\u2019ll just say up front that I\u2019m going to try to become a general contractor myself lol<\/p>\n

And now, the damage caused by this prolonged rain is taking its toll.<\/p>\n
Prior to this project, we performed rebar insertion work at the top of the structure.<\/p>\n
This slope is a temporary road, but vertical cracks appeared shortly after construction was completed.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
As a general rule for slopes, vertical cracks are extremely problematic, so I\u2019ve repeatedly said that this area is dangerous and we should take measures to address it.<\/p>\n
That said, since it\u2019s just a temporary road, there\u2019s no reason to spend money on it, so this time it really struck a chord with me.<\/p>\n
Although it hasn't reached the point of collapse, the slippage appears to be originating from a point further back than the rebar insertion point (5 m). (There is a crack at the top of the slope.)<\/p>\n
At this point, it\u2019s either removing the excess soil, securing it with a formwork frame, or tightening it with anchors, right?<\/p>\n
In reality, sprayed mortar and concrete do look stable at first glance, don't they?<\/p>\n
It doesn't really serve as a deterrent, though.<\/p>\n
So that ends up meaning we won't take any measures at all.<\/p>\n
The wire mesh inside has not been designed based on strength calculations.<\/p>\n
Its sole purpose is to ensure that the mortar bonds well with the natural ground.<\/p>\n

And the local government told us it\u2019s fine to use sandbags for the retaining wall here lol<\/p>\n
Right now, there are two stacks, but personally, I\u2019d like to see at least two more added.<\/p>\n
If this road collapses, won't that completely derail the construction schedule?? Is everything going to be okay??<\/p>\n

I hear they're going to do something about it once the main construction is finished lol<\/p>\n
If it collapses right here, this project will come to a halt, huh? I guess that\u2019s not a bad option either? lol<\/p>\n
As I think about that, I figure I'll just go with the flow.<\/p>\n

With all this prolonged rain, please be on the lookout for any changes in the slope.<\/p>\n
