Lately, we\u2019ve been receiving requests for cost estimates and design work from city hall and construction consulting firms.<\/p>\n
It's fine that they're coming, but even though it says \"urgent,\" they didn't specify the soil type or list any requirements...<\/p>\n
\"How the heck am I supposed to do this?!\" is what I find myself thinking late at night, lol.<\/p>\n
I suppose thinking, \u201cI\u2019ll just do it at night without checking during the day,\u201d is probably where the mistake lies, but...<\/p>\n
I wish they would at least send the minimum required documents.<\/p>\n
But that's beside the point.<\/p>\n
I received a call from the general contractor regarding the job site we were assigned during our first sales call the other day.<\/p>\n
According to the general contractor, \u201cGround anchor work is specialized and particularly difficult in areas where there is water.\u201d<\/p>\n
\"And there are only about two companies in this region that can handle this difficult work\u2014ours and another (major) company.\"<\/p>\n
\"That contractor is sketchy, isn't he? I think it's going to end in disaster!\"<\/p>\n
Apparently, that's what another company told them, lol.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
So, what's the deal?<\/p>\n
Is it really that hard?<\/p>\n
So when they said that, I replied, \u201cWell, it is a bit special, but it\u2019s a conventional method.\u201d<\/p>\n
\"I just dig a hole, put in the prestressed steel strand, pour in the grout\u2014it\u2019s just nerve-wracking, though.\"<\/p>\n
\"And the 'major contractors' those people are talking about are actually construction companies like ours.\"<\/p>\n
\"I think what we end up doing is the same, though.\"<\/p>\n
\"The only question now is whether we can handle the construction management.\"<\/p>\n
That's how I explained it.<\/p>\n

Someone asked me, \u201cIs everything okay with construction management?\u201d so,<\/p>\n
\"We're a small company, but we've got the technical know-how, so don't worry!\" I replied, lol.<\/p>\n
Well, when it comes to ground anchor work in particular, I\u2019ve managed the installation of thousands of them since my days as a subcontractor, and,<\/p>\n
Now that I\u2019m a contractor, I install hundreds of them every year, so my experience is on a whole different level.<\/p>\n
There\u2019s plenty of know-how out there on what to do in situations like this\u2014this or that.<\/p>\n
Well, I've pretty much written about that on my blog, lol.<\/p>\n
And since I\u2019ve been involved in construction management longer than I\u2019ve been a contractor, I still feel like a construction manager (myself), lol.<\/p>\n

But it really made me realize once again just how tough it is to land a job, lol.<\/p>\n
There's a constant barrage of interference, isn't there? (Is everyone desperately trying to trip each other up?)<\/p>\n
Apparently, he kept asking where the construction work would be done.<\/p>\n
What if I get caught? Will they call me??<\/p>\n
When you think about it, it's kind of super scary, lol.<\/p>\n
