The other day, I went to a slope a little ways away!<\/p>\n
On the way back, I discovered an incredible slope that looked just like something out of *Laputa*!<\/p>\n

This is the \"On-Site Construction\" section.<\/p>\n
This is the type of formwork where you build the formwork and pour the concrete into it.<\/p>\n
It's quite an old one.<\/p>\n
The reason is that the anchor caps are made of concrete.<\/p>\n
I'm pretty sure the anchor caps are made of concrete, but that was more than 25 years ago.<\/p>\n
In all the construction projects I've been involved with in the past, we've never done this before.<\/p>\n
We have, on occasion, embedded the aluminum cap directly into the concrete.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
There is an anchor head inside this concrete.<\/p>\n

Actually, I found a spot where the concrete had come loose and the head was exposed, so I pulled over to take a picture.<\/p>\n
You don't get to see a sight like this very often!<\/p>\n

It's just like the robot from *Laputa*! LOL<\/p>\n

There is still concrete on the head.<\/p>\n
However, since the PC steel strand is already covered in rust, I suspect\u2014though I can't say for sure\u2014that the rust has spread all the way to the inside.<\/p>\n

If left as is, the tension will be relieved when the wedge eventually rusts and rots.<\/p>\n
Once the load is removed, the weight that was previously supporting the structure will decrease, which could cause it to collapse.<\/p>\n
That said, it doesn't mean it'll happen right away. (There's a good chance it won't happen at all.)<\/p>\n

To put it simply, let's say there are 10 anchors in total, each under a tension of 100 kN.<\/p>\n
10 bars \u00d7 100 kN = 1,000 kN<\/p>\n
If a load of 1,000 kN is applied to the mountain to prevent it from sliding, and one of those loads is removed, the total load becomes 900 kN.<\/p>\n
Assuming a safety factor of 1.2, 1,000 kN \u00f7 1.2 = 833 kN<\/p>\n
Simply put, if one more bolt comes out, the balance between the rock\u2019s strength (weight of the rock mass) and the anchor\u2019s tension will be disrupted.<\/p>\n

That does sound a little scary, but it\u2019s not something you can figure out with a simple calculation, so I can\u2019t really say for sure, lol.<\/p>\n

But a slope that looks this good really catches your eye, doesn't it? (Huh? Is it just me?? lol)<\/p>\n

It was just a small thing, but it got my imagination running wild.<\/p>\n
How did the concrete head come off?<\/p>\n
Did a car hit it?<\/p>\n
Could the head, which is already tilted, have been unloaded?<\/p>\n
How far has the rust spread?<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
The ground anchor projects from the past are also very interesting.<\/p>\n
The slopes around you have stories like that, too!<\/p>\n
As someone who loves all kinds of civil engineering structures, this is just too good to resist!<\/p>\n
